Cramp in Pregnancy

Not all pains in early pregnancy are bad. Very early pregnancy symptoms such as spotting, nausea and cramps can simply be an indicator that natural changes are taking place in the body.

As soon as the woman conceives, her body begins to adjust and the hormones in pregnancy begin to take effect.

Some women aren’t even aware of their pregnancy the first trimester, even after some months. Unless you have particularly severe symptoms you can go through that first period without actually knowing. Many women are used to having cramp and abdominal pains during their monthly menstruation period. It is common in women to have cramps, even if its not that time of the month and some women find out afterwards that they were actually pregnant at that time.

Early pregnancy signs and cramping can start shortly after receiving a positive pregnancy test as the uterus starts to prepare to carry the baby for the coming next nine months. The uterus is a very large organ and as it grows during pregnancy some stretching discomfort may be expected. If you need reassurance call your doctor, especially if you feel that it is becoming too much for you to handle.

As well as occurring in the early first few months, cramping in pregnancy can also occur during the second and third trimester as the uterus continues to grow and prepare itself for labour and the birth of the baby.Your body goes through so many changes during this time that it starts to feel more normal after a while. Many women do not experience any cramps at all at this time. Those who do suffer during this time can get symptoms that range from rather mild and manageable to severely painful, which may indicate something more serious is wrong, needing some kind of intervention.

We will clarify a few things that can cause cramping in early pregnancy:

-Ectopic Pregnancy: Is a serious condition and it requires immediate attention from a doctor. The signs can include cramps and abdominal pain. It is usually felt on one side in particular and can be accompanied by spotting or bleeding.

-Cramping in early pregnancy that is accompanied by bleeding or spotting could be a warning sign of a miscarriage.

-Implantation Cramping: Many women will experience pain upon implantation. This usually occurs during the 8-10 days after ovulating. After a positive pregnancy test you should not experience implantation cramping.

-The stretching of the uterus as your body prepares for your baby can spark off cramps. It is a natural consequence of stretching and expanding.

-Constipation or gas pains can cause this kind of discomfort during early pregnancy. Women who are pregnant quite often have problems with constipation. That leads to uncomfortable cramping.

We will clarify a few things that can cause cramps in late pregnancy:

-Preterm Labor : severe or mild cramping, diarrhea and back pain are all symptoms and indicators for preterm labor.

-Round Ligament Pain: Round ligament pain is experienced often in the third or second trimester of the pregnancy. As the uterus continues to grow in early pregnancy, the uterus expands the ligaments that stretch to support it. Mild cramping occurs as a result.

- Braxton Hicks Contractions: During the second and third trimester, pregnant woman will often have these contractions which are called Braxton Hicks contractions or otherwise known as ‘false labour’. They are irregular intermittent contractions which occur during late pregnancy.

-Labor: Throughout early labor back pain and cramping are very common symptoms.

Also, if you are/have experienced diarrhea as an early pregnancy symptom, how early in the pregnancy did you experience it???

  2. Some of the reasons given to explain lower back pain during pregnancy are mere myths which people spread through word of mouth and are based on no research. One can learn the truth about the causes through an informed research. Many mothers consult doctors because of these problems. I hate lower back pain, drives me mad. Did it leave after your pregnancy?

  3. Cool. Thanks for writing this. Its always nice to see someone help out the public.

  4. Ok, you really need to diversify your diet. If you are picky and want something easy, go to the grocery store and buy buns, veggie burgers, tomatos, onions, pickles and lettuce. These are a great way to get some protein and veggies. Soup is also a wonderful choice. Look through all the soups at the store to find some good vegan ones. It’s really important to eat a wide range of foods, lot’s of veggies, fruits, whole grains, and some protien. You can get a lot of nutrition from peanut butter on whole wheat bread. You have to get creative sometimes, but it can be fun!
